What We Collect

How We Store Your Data

All data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage) hosted in the United States. Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication. Data is transmitted over HTTPS.

Notifications

With your permission, FreeTogether sends notifications to members of your groups:

Each also carries identifiers the app uses to open the right group or event. Notifications can appear on your lock screen (you can hide previews in your phone's settings). They are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) and, on iPhone, the Apple Push Notification service. You can choose which kinds you get in Profile › Notifications, mute a group in its Settings, or turn notifications off in your phone's settings. You aren't notified about events, confirmations, joins or reminders caused by members you have blocked. Signing out removes this device's token (if you're offline, the token is invalidated the next time you open the app instead). Deleting your account deletes your devices' tokens and notification settings, and nothing more is sent to it. Records used to limit how often reminders and event notifications are sent (a user ID and a time) may remain.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide the FreeTogether service: enabling group availability coordination and date recommendations, and keeping groups safe. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, other than the service providers that run the app (Google Firebase, including Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, and, on iPhone, Apple's push notification service).

Data Sharing

Your display name, profile photo, availability status (unavailable, tentative, preferred), any notes on availability blocks, and your answers to events are visible to active members of your groups. Group and event photos are visible only to the group's active members: someone who leaves or is removed can no longer load them in the app. A replaced or removed photo is deleted, and a group's or event's photos are deleted with it. Comments and who liked them are visible to the group's active members; you can edit or delete your own, and the group's owner can delete any. A comment's first words can appear in the notification other members get (you can hide previews on your lock screen, or turn Comments off in Profile › Notifications). Comments are deleted with their event or group. Adding an event to your calendar happens on your device. If you use Add busy times from your calendar, FreeTogether reads your calendar on your device, with your permission, and saves only the days and times you're busy or might be busy to that group, as availability other members can see; event titles, places, attendees and notes are never sent or stored. Importing again replaces what earlier imports added for the same dates, and you can turn calendar access off at any time in your phone's settings. Reports are private: the member you report is not told who reported them. We do not share data with any third parties beyond the infrastructure services listed above.

Age Requirement

FreeTogether is not intended for anyone under 16. Everyone is asked for their date of birth once; we keep only whether they meet the requirement. If someone under 16 tries to use the app, we block access on that device (the device itself remembers the date and which account failed the check, so the block holds and the deletion can be retried) and delete the account; groups they own are handed to another member or closed. If you believe a child under 16 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Reporting and Blocking

You can report or block any member from the group's Settings screen, report a comment or photo from its menu, and unblock them from Profile › Blocked members. Blocking hides that member's name, photo, notes, and comments from you in every group; their availability still counts when finding dates. We review reports and may remove content or accounts that break these rules.

Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the app's Profile screen. When you do, your availability is deleted, your event answers are deleted, your comments and likes are deleted, your group memberships are removed, your name, email, and profile photo are removed from your profile, your devices' notification tokens and notification settings are deleted, events you created stay with the group without your name, and your sign-in account is deleted. If you signed in with Apple, you're asked to confirm with Apple and FreeTogether's access to your Apple Account is revoked. Reports are kept for safety purposes. You may also contact us to request data deletion; see how to delete your account, with or without the app.
